Corey’s Biography

Patent Trial and Litigation Attorney

Corey is an accomplished patent trial lawyer, with a long record of success both enforcing and defeating patent infringement claims. He has served as case manager and as lead counsel, driving strategy from complaint through successful resolution. And he has often stepped in to handle technical or other aspects of ongoing cases. In particular, he has substantial experience working with, presenting, and cross-examining engineer and expert witnesses. Corey works efficiently with judgment born of wide experience—writing and arguing with clarity and credibility—all toward the goal of winning where it matters and saving clients money where it doesn’t.

Corey has gained over two decades of experience trying, litigating, and resolving high-stakes intellectual property cases. At Keker, Van Nest & Peters and at Jones Day, representing global technology companies and pre-IPO startups, he helped defend and defeat many bet-the-company cases at summary judgment or at trial. At Bunsow De Mory, representing professors, individual inventors, and their companies, he helped the firm achieve many significant pretrial settlements and trial verdicts—and found particular success at defending patent validity, whether on motions or in Patent Office proceedings. Corey has had stand-up roles in ten trials—including in nine- and ten-figure patent disputes. He tried three misdemeanor cases to jury verdict solo as a volunteer Deputy District Attorney in Los Angeles. And he has prepared for, and participated in, dozens of additional trials.

He has been helped along the way by experience and perspective gained from working for a Federal Judge, and from representing indigent clients pro bono in civil, family, traffic, eviction, immigration, and appellate courts. Before the law, Corey had a whole previous career in electrical and computer engineering— working as a chip designer and technical marketing engineer on mixed-signal and very-large-scale-integrated circuits. In his free time, he takes road trips, reads towards achieving polymathy, and tries to be a good Dad.
